Hands-On Ice Carving

Help carver Cathleen Gallagher create an ice sculpture! Children and adults will be able to assist Cathleen as she creates a polar bear from a block of ice. Hand chisels and safety goggles will be provided.

Cathleen Gallagher is from Green Bay, WI. She is married with 3 grown children and 4 grandchildren. She moved to Huntersville, NC in 2012. She has been carving for 20 years in Green Bay winter festivals. Last year at WinterFest, she did a hands-on carving of a penguin at BRAHM that let children and adults get a feel for sculpting. Since most professional carvers don’t want their art touched or ruined, this is the perfect opportunity to discover the next ice carving artists in the community.┬áCathleen comes from a family of 10 and all of them are ice/snow artists, because when you live in Wisconsin there is so much snow and cold, it only makes sense to have fun with it! She is glad to have found Blowing Rock WinterFest to get back to her bliss.

WinterFest Ice Stroll

Stroll through Blowing Rock and see all the gorgeous ice sculptures! Artisan Ice Sculptures is one of only five Master Ice Carvers in the United States. Approximately 20 ice sculptures will be on display in front of businesses in town. Creativity abounds with our sculptures! Spend some time in the shops and businesses while you enjoy the stroll. A map of locations will follow as time grows near (2018 map is below for reference). *Duration of the ice art is dependent on the weather, so put this on your early evening schedule!
